Can you help us?

This is a community organisation intended to help all of us to build a better and fairer community. We hope to involve all sorts of people in our organisation: as friends, investors, borrowers, helpers, and sponsors.

As Friends

You don't even have to be a member (but we would rather you were), simply spread the word.

As Investors

We need to have investors to provide us with funds to lend, we have already taken more than £55,000 in savings from our first few branch members. As a whole First Dorset Credit Union holds around £500,000 in funds. The credit union is a safe place to keep your money, and saving with us will benefit others in the community.

As Borrowers

Giving members low cost loans is the basis of the Credit Union, without the interest earned from loans the Credit Union would not be able to grow.
All members may take out loans and benefit from the low interest rates. You can save and borrow at the same time, people who already hold credit or store cards may find this facility cheaper than their credit cards if they don't pay them off in full every month.
We currently have around £25,000 out on loan to our members.

As Volunteers

We need helpers to staff our service points, we currently have a small band of dedicated volunteers, enough to open the Gillingham service point. But we hope to be able to encourage more people to help so that we can open other service points soon.
We would like to establish service points in Shaftesbury, Stirminster Newton and Mere. So that we can cover all of the area of the Blackmore Vale. Full training would be given and it is an excellent way of meeting people and serving the community.

As Sponsors

We would like to involve businesses and industry in the area as well as community organisations.
If you have a business, you can offer payroll deduction to your employees to help them save (and borrow) more easily.
If you have a retail/service business you might consider joining the discount scheme for members by offering a small discount on the goods or services that you provide. This scheme has worked very well for other branches of First Dorset Credit Union, where many businesses provide a discount on a huge range of goods and services.
